Tyson Fury’s odds on winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2015 could have been shortened by ‘mischief makers’

TYSON FURY is the 14-1 fourth favourite to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year although William Hill have started to see a few “mischief makers” backing the heavyweight champion to win the award.

“We have started to see a trickle of money for Fury to win the Sports Personality of the Year which would suggest that there are plenty of people who are planning on voting for him,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

A number of punters are backing Fury – who will attend the event – to finish in the bottom two, however. Offered at 20-1, almost half of the bets in the where will Tyson Fury finish market, have been for 11th or 12th.

“Fury is one of the most divisive personalities to ever feature on the SPOTY list and there are quite a few who think he will win it and some who this he will finish in the bottom two,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Andy Murray is the 4-6 favourite to win the award ahead of Jessica Ennis-Hill at 2-1.

SPOTY winner: 4-6 Andy Murray; 2-1 Jessica Ennis-Hill; 7-1 Kevin Sinfield; 14-1 Tyson Fury; 25-1 Lewis Hamilton; 66-1 Chris Froome; 100-1 Mo Farah; 150-1 Greg Rutherford; 250-1 Adam Peaty; 250-1 Lizzie Armistead; 250-1 Lucy Bronze; 250-1 Max Whitlock
